"If you meet the Buddha on the road kill him" -- Buddha

This song advocates a kinder, gentler Buddhism, a reform Buddhism if you will.

lyrics

If You Meet the Buddha
Geo. McCalip © 2012 BMI

“If you meet the Buddha on the road kill him,”
That’s what the Buddha said.
That caused me to ask, “Just
why should the Buddha be dead?”

CHORUS:
I won’t be a Buddha killer.
Buddha I won’t slay.
I won’t be a Buddha killer.
There’s a better way.

“But he is not the true Buddha,”
that’s what the Buddha said.
He is just an illusion,
something happening in your head.

That thought caused me to wonder
whose fault this might be?
Is it in the one I’m meeting
Or does the blame lie within me?

CHORUS

If I’m the one who’s at fault here
Why should the other pay?
Why should I kill another
Just because I lost my way?

I won’t kill the Buddha,
No I won’t leave him dead.
Said I won’t kill the Buddha
I’ll check my GPS instead.

CHORUS:
I won’t be a Buddha killer.
Buddha I won’t slay.
I won’t kill another just
Because I lost my way.

I said I won’t kill the Buddha
I’ll check my GPS instead.
