about
The tune by Phil Ochs is used under the fair use exemption to copyright based on its use in a parody and its use in a political statement.
I believe the person who wrote the tune (or, as here, his estate) should also benefit from the use of this tune so I have offered to work out a licensing agreement for use of the tune even though I am not required by law to do so in this case. The offer remains open.
Here's to the brothers Charles and David
We know you like to talk about the values you hold dear,
Spreading vitriol and venom for all of us to hear.
So for future generations your legacy is clear;
That you've lived your entire lives based on hatred, greed and fear.
Oh, here's to the land you've torn out the heart of,
Charles and David, find yourself another country to be part of.
Here's to the brothers Charles and David
Your view of the environment, let's just say it's fogged.
You think our country's resources are something to be hogged.
Mention Georgia-Pacific and our memories will be jogged,
That you see the ancient forests as just timber to be logged.
Oh, here's to the land you've torn out the heart of,
Charles and David, find yourself another country to be part of.
Here's to the brothers Charles and David
When bargaining with others you feel you are so shrewd,
But your value of labor is both miserly and skewed.
That's why you think that unions are things to be eschewed,
Even though we know without them the workers would be screwed.
Oh, here's to the land you've torn out the heart of,
Charles and David, find yourself another country to be part of.
Here's to the brothers Charles and David
We know that you hate Medicare and Social Security.
We assume that your attitude comes with your pedigree,
From a father who helped found the John Birch Society,
And it's so clear that the nuts didn't fall from the tree.
Oh, here's to the land you've torn out the heart of,
Charles and David, find yourself another country to be part of.
Here's to the brothers Charles and David
It’s true that in politics you have your whores and hacks,
We've seen the destruction from the ones you’ve backed.
So keep your God damned ALEC and your stinking Super PACs.
Because this is our country and we're taking it back!
Oh, here's to the land you've torn out the heart of,
Charles and David, find yourself another country to be part of.
Oh, here's to the land you've torn out the heart of,
Charles and David, find yourself another planet to be part of.
